Hi,

Just got a new pc because I had a major issue with my old PC that kept giving me no signal. So I guessed it was the mobo was fried after troubleshooting every step I could think off, I am tech savvy but I am not familiar with new hardware and compatibilities etc.......

So anyway the NEW PC I bought because I had to get one fast to get back online in an emergency situation and could not wait the length of time it would have taken if I ordered online.

So I ended up getting a <Mod Edit> base PC Specialist system from Currys Store.

Anyway the mobo it has in it is a PRIME A520M-k and it has the <Mod Edit> budget Ryzen 3 4100 in it.

So I was wondering if my mobo supports the Ryzen 7 5700x? because that is the cpu I am looking at getting for this pc. I am also going to get a better PSU for it and 32gb(2X16gb DDR4 ram) too.

So would love to know if my mobo would support this Ryzen 7 5700x.

Also the PSU that my pc has in it is a rm550x modular one, so the PSU I will be buying at the same time as the CPU and Ram will be the rm750x Modular one, that way the swap over will be insanely easy and quick. I can keep all the cables intact because its nice and cable managed cos it was a pre built PCSPECIALIST pc. So I just need to unplug the cables from the back of the 550 psu and unscrew it from the back and take the old psu out and put new one in and plug cables back into the new one.

So last question is, Will I need to update my BIOS too? I checked the version it had, and it was dated 2022 and was version 2804 I think it was. So will this version support the Ryzen 7 5700x without the need to flash bios?

Lasty I have a 3060 TI I bought last year too. I am risking having it in this PC atm seeming it is only a 550watt PSU. But it has been fine the last week since I had it in.

Thanks in advance

RJ

I will not be buying the new cpu and psu yet, need to save up for a month or 2 before I have the funds, the money I spent on the new PC has already put me in the hole for a while.

So that is why I made an account here to ask for advice etc on this before I dived in and bought them. I just want to make sure it will be supported first and if I need to flash bios or not etc.

Yes, that MB will support 5700x but may need BIOS update first, 5700x is not power hungry (65W) , no more than your present CPU so it should work fine and be quite an upgrade,
If that PSU of yours is powering system now without trouble or heating up, upgrading to 5600x is no reason to change it, If you want to change it for other reasons, that's another story,

Ok thanks, so your not sure if I will need to update bios too. When I googled, I had vague results and was not fully sure if I had to or not. I mean should I update bios before I put it in? just to be on the safe side?

But yeah the reason why I want the rm750x PSU is basically just as a precaution because I do not want to risk a major PSU failure and fire etc for over use or maxing the PSU etc.

I have multiple drives in it too. Do you think I should also buy an extra fan too just in case?

Also last question. I have a huge heatsink on this current CPU, do you that the current heatsink that is on the CPU atm I can reuse on the Ryzen 7 5700x?

Thanks again in advance :)

I can't be sure about BIOS version because I don't know which version is now but that's easy to find. I would update to last one anyway because there were some changes in it concerning security and AGESA 1208 code. Helps with RAM performance too. Also contains all fixes for problems found before it. if you follow instructions it's easy and safe,
5700x comes with good enough cooler but if you have better one, why not ? Socket is same just get some new paste.
Last BIOS is 3002 and could be found here

Ok yep thanks I already downloaded that ready to go. I have a USB stick but it has the windows 10 files on it.

I did not really want to delete the ISO from the usb stick, but I suppose it wont hurt to just transfer them back to my pc then delete them from usb and then move them back once I have flashed bios with the usb stick. Thanks so much for the help. I appreciate it.

BIOS can use the file on any attached (inside disk as well as any USB) storage. just have to point it to file.
USB in Fat32 or CD with file in root are needed only if BIOS is corrupted and you can't see what's on screen.

Ok cool thanks did not know that. Will go into BIOS later or tomorrow to do it then :)

I just wanted to let you know that I got the new CPU/PSU/RAM - All in and working perfectly.

My CPU temp idle is 30C

When gaming it gets to about 52C :)

So I am happy with it. Glad I got the Ryzen 7 5700x now.

Thanks again @CountMike for the help appreciated it :)
