I hate to be a pain in the ass but as i see there are heaps of other people asking for help about their custom built pc's ill put down my combination and it would be cool if you people comment on it and tell me if i done something really stupid.

P4 2.4 ghz, 800mhz fsb

Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 865PE USB2.0 6-ch audio 8xAGP FSB800 Dual-ch DDR400 Serial ATA

PixelView FX5900 128MB TV in/out DVI Vivo

Silver Trendy Tower Case w P4 300w power Supply with 2xUSB &sound mounted on front panel ( dose the case and power supply have any impact on overall speed of the cpu ).

512Mb DDR 400MHz Twimos PC3200

I only included the components that effect cpu speed im not going to list the other components such as keyboard...

I live in new zealand so prices are 2x whatever they are in us and we tend to get the stuff later. Also when is p5 coming out so i know if its worth waiting for pices to drop

any suggestions are welcom

thx

You've a relatively power hungry beast there, i'd upgrade to at least a 350 watt brand named power supply such as Fortron or Enermax, maybe even 400 or more watts to be safe. The case doesn't matter, as long as it's pretty to you, and it's not too rough to work inside of (no sharp edges, optional removeable motherboard tray, drive rails, tooless, ect.) Otherwise, you should be fine. Everything else is pretty good, you'll need a hard drive though. I'd suggest Seagate if you want low noise, or Western Digital/Maxtor for speed.

I want to see an <font color=blue>Ati Radeon 99999 Ultra Pro</font color=blue>, based on the <font color=red>AtiRage core</font color=red>. And people wonder how a <font color=purple>Geforce3</font color=purple> is better than a <font color=orange>Geforce4 Mx...</font color=orange>

if you can get a corsair ram, i would recommend you replacing twinmos.

why?

I have heard great things about twinmos and their overclockability...

Fact of the matter is that corsair's ram is very expensive...and they use the same ram chips as twinmos...as long as twinmos uses a good quality pcb...corsair vs. twinmos of the same timmings should yield very identical overclocking and performance results...

If i put my k6 in a Ferrari it would be faster than your your pentium 4 or Athlon XP

I got a choice between these 2 brands of ram and video cards

512Mb DDR 400MHz Twimos PC3200- lifetime warranty

512 MB DDRAM PQI PC3200 with life time warranty

and these video cards

PixelView FX5900 128MB TV in/out DVI Vivo NZ $801.87 (inclusive of GST)
OR
gainward FX-5900 AGP 8X, 128M 2.2ns DDR, CRT+DVI-I+VIVO, Golden Sample NZ $828.49 (inclusive of GST

the vido cards are standard fx5900 not ultra. After this is sorted im gonna go and buy the pc.

Yeah, make sure the PSU is actually a decent brand...
Antec or Enermax are my faves.
Too many flashy cases have cheap crappy PSU's to keep the cost down.
