I just built a computer and tried to install windows... i set it to boot from cd.. and when it does... it just reboots and it repeats itself...

it says.. booting from cd/dvd....
you can hear the dvd spin for 2 seconds.. then it sounds like it stops...
then the screen stays like that for 10 seconds then reboots?
what am i doing wrong?

using gigabyte-p965-dq6 mobo

How about your system specs?

I'm guessing you have some kind of hardware or heat problem. Could be a power supply issue or a memory issue. Could be BIOS settings. You're not trying to overclock are you? Are your CPU and RAM settings correct?

Gigabyte DQ6
corsair pc-4200 533mhz ... 2x 1gb sticks
E6400
7900gt

im sure its not a heat problem... bios shows normal temps...

i HAD that power on/off cycle problem... where the ram would only work in slots 3 and 4... anywhere else would make it power on and off... the problem was... the I/O plate under the mobo... i took it out... and now slots 1 to 4 work....

so now the computer runs fine... but cant install windows...

I would say if you can't install windows then it doesn't run fine.

What's the deal with your power supply? Wattage, make, model?

You should go through your MB manual and make sure that your BIOS settings are correct. Specifically your RAM speed and CPU speed.
