Question Workaround to do a shut down without updating, but wait until the next boot instead?

Usually, the "shut down" option is there above / below the "update and shut down" option, but sometimes it isn't.

What should you do if you're on a laptop and the battery is almost dead? Or, you're on a desktop and you have a UPS, but it only has a few minutes worth of backup power? You might also want to shut down in a hurry if you get a message that the CPU temperature is too high. (Windows doesn't have that itself, but I have monitoring software for that)

Of course, you could just hold down the power button to force a shut down, but I mean like a key combo or terminal command to do a software shutdown?

Instead of left-clicking on the start button and finding shutdown....
Try right clicking on the windows start button at bottom left to get the power menu with more options, like sleep and sign out etc. and see if shutdown is showing in there and that it works ok.
