worried about voltage fluctuations caused by air conditioner

Hi,

Not sure where to post this. Please let me know if it should be posted somewhere else.

I have my computer on a CyberPower CP1350PFCLCD uninterruptible power supply which seems to be working very well. The problem is that, due to the layout of my small apartment, my wall-mounted air conditioner has to be on the same circuit as the computer. Every time the air conditioner goes on the lights dim and the computer's UPS has to compensate. Is this a bad thing long term for either the computer or the UPS? Thanks.

It is wearing the power supply. But that is what it is there for. In general even when it compensates the output is mildly stressing the PC system as well. If you are long term in this Apt. you might check to see if 1 circuit can be added off the panel dedicated to the AC. When in cooler months you could also use that circuit for the PC. Best would be to have each on it's own circuit.

Thanks Dogsnake. My only choices are a long extension cord for the air conditioner or a long extension cord for the computer. I asked about this on the Yahoo forum and the consensus of opinion is that it would be safer to put the computer rather than the air conditioner on a long extension cord. This would have to be 50 feet and I would use a heavy 12 gauge cord. What do you think about this? Thanks.

Never mind 🙂 I just figured out that if I plug the AC into the lower part of the wall outlet it has its own circuit. Only when plugged into the upper part of the wall outlet does it share with my computer. Go figure! Thanks for your help though!
