I have a spare rig that I am going to use as a pc for my garage. It is a Dell Inspiron 530 with the following specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo e6700 Conroe
8gb DDR2 667
MSI AMD R9 270X HAWK
250GB Boot drive
80GB Drive for spare files
Wifi card
USB card

I am trying to make the computer a bit snappier so it can use youtube fairly quickly and play songs on Spotify. Currently it is slow between loading new programs which I think is to due the boot drive. I have modded the BIOS to allow for AHCI mode and attempted to install a Xeon L5420 but sadly it does not boot even with the microcode inserted. Should I run with what I got, or maybe upgrade to an e8600 or an SSD.

Solution
Your motherboard is probably the G33M02, which only supports dual core processors:

If you're stuck at dual core, that isn't really a problem for single tasks like a youtube video, and the e8600 is awesome for that as it has the fastest single thread performance of almost all the lga775s if I'm not mistaken (even the highly sought after q9650 isn't as fast):

I've got several e8600s and they feel as fast as first gen i-cores because, well they are...

if you want quad core go for q8200s or q9650s
prebuilt pc bios modding is terrible sometime it cant work man
and upgrade to e85600 will not worth it because the perfomance increase was too small
