Would 1000w be too much for me?

Im building my first gaming pc and for the most part have my completed list of parts needed. The estimates for power consumption is 465W (lets say 500W since its only an estimate.) Would it be overkill for me to buy a 1000W Corsair psu?

Just by itself, the Zotac 850to AMP! Extreme shows as 250W (pcpp), that would put your estimate to 715W so look for an 850W PSU. (As a minimum)

Then again, for what should be the same price High performance GPUs will be coming out in the 14/16nm processes from both teams. These should draw less power, but we don't know what they really will be.

If considering PSUs fof the same 80+ rating (Bronze/Gold/Platinum/Titanium/etc) you will be drawing slightly more from the wall than a 750. (As posted earlier, try to target 50-80%)

Your 465W will probably be close to your high mark, depending upon the estimating tool. I like PCPP but don't know how close it's estimates are to the max under load wattage, which is why I give it some extra leeway.

A good 750 would do you well while allowing some leeway for upgrading or overclocking.

750 be good even if i were planning on adding a second gpu sometime in the future? im going to be using a zotac gtx 980ti amp extreme and if it all worked alright i was planning on adding another later on
