Would a 970 run on my PSU

Im going to buy a GTX 970 this year, would my XFX 450W PSU support it or do I have to buy a new PSU too?

Nvidia recommends at least 500W supply to power this card. Any OC or aftermarket cooling should have this wattage or better as well for most systems.

Get a XFX 550.

450 is a little light.

450W is below the "recommended" spec but that doesn't mean it won't run. What matters is the amps on your PSU can deliver on a single rail and if it has the required power connectors for the GTX 970 you're buying. That being said, it is probably a good idea to upgrade your PSU.
