Hey guys,
i have been gaming a long time but only recently gotten into PC Gaming. This will be my first build/configuration ever, so all help is greatly appreciated!

1. Compatibility-
MSI B350 Tomahawk
Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz Six-Core
MSI AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB
1x8GB DDR4/2400mhz RAM
Cooler Master Hyper 411R CPU Fan
Corsair 750 Watts CX750 Power supply
2TB Seagate SATA-III 7200rpm Hard Drive
ASUS Xonar DGX 5.1 Channels PCI-E Sound Card
will they run well or will i face problems? should i upgrade on the CPU or mobo or?

2. RAM - i am going with 8GB of ram ,maybe 16gb but i was wondering about mhz. i don't fully understand it and would like to know what level is best? would 2400mhz be okay with this set up?

3. SSD's - are they worth the money? how would i use it to optimize my PC?

4. POWER SUPPLY - is 650 watts enough? should i go for 800? 1000? i don't want to fry my new system.

5. Hard Drive and SSD - should i get a 2TB hard drive and a 120gb SSD?

Now i know this is a lot to put down in one section , but i don't have anyone to ask. ANY help is greatly greatly appreciated!! thanks guys! ,

Solution
Hello odii,

First, you didn't state where you will be buying as this makes a difference to price and availability. My builds are in USD but I suspect you don't live in the US.

    ■ For a compatibility check enter your components into PCPartPicker, it is pretty darn good at picking off compatibility issues. I have done that below, just click the top link to view/edit the build. You will find two builds below, your initial build and then my revised build.■ Pretty much all games will play with 8GB without running into the RAM filling up. That may change in the near future. Also, if you plan to stream or video edit you need 16GB minimum. You want to get RAM in pairs so that the RAM can run in dual channel mode which is a little...
I’ll get back to the compatibility check later (unless someone else gets to it)

2) I have a g4560 and a 1050, and use 8gb of ddr4 2400 just fine. If you are a heavy multitasker or media creator, go for 16gb. If not, hold back to 8gb. Seeing you have a Ryzen 5, I would say you should up it to ddr4-2666 (found many others using this type in 8th gen intel i5s)

3) I have a 120gb SSD and it is rather more for convenience than purpose. Compared to my...older laptop, the SSD boots Windows quick. Takes about 8 sec. to get to logon screen and another 10 sec maximum to get to a fully set up windows home screen. It will load up programs in the blink of an eye most of the time. So it’s up to you, spend the extra...40ish bucks for a 120gb SSD or hold off and get an hdd that is a little slower, but does it’s job fine.

4) Slow down there, I think that a 550w will do fine for your current setup, but be sure to upgrade it if you go into a higher end system.

5) looks good. SSD for frequent programs and windows and hdd for everything else.

Hello odii,

I have done that below, just click the top link to view/edit the build. You will find two builds below, your initial build and then my revised build.■ Pretty much all games will play with 8GB without running into the RAM filling up. That may change in the near future. Also, if you plan to stream or video edit you need 16GB minimum. You want to get RAM in pairs so that the RAM can run in dual channel mode which is a little faster. For DDR4 you start at 2133 MHz and go all the way up to 4600 MHz. I would up the RAM speed a bit as you have an overclocking setup and you will need the faster RAM should you ever want to do this.■ SSD's are absolutely worth it, they are much faster than HDD's and make things like boot times and screen swaps much faster. They won't affect gaming performance too much but still worth it.■ 650W is more than enough for this rig, in fact a good 550W is a better choice. 800 or 1000W PSU's would be a waste. If you are worried about frying your system then make sure you get a good quality PSU over higher wattage.■ Unless you store lots of large files like videos or 4K images then a 1TB HDD should be enough. For the SSD I recommend at least a 240GB so that you don't run out of room for programs or frequently accessed files. That is what you do with SSD's, you store all your programs/OS on them plus frequently accessed file and store large or infrequently accessed files on the HDD. Be aware that as SSD's get past the 75% full point they begin to slow down and past the 90% point they really start to slow down.
For the revised build I downgraded the CPU to the Ryzen 1400 to save money and bring it more in line with the GPU. Changed the RAM to 2x4GB from 1x8GB and upped the speed to 3200 MHz. Used the money saved from the CPU to add an SSD and downsized the HDD to a 1TB. Upgraded the GPU to a GTX 1060-6GB, this is faster than the RX570

Gave you a good mid-budget case and changed the PSU to an excellent 550W. The gold certified PSU will actually save you money over time in power costs. Last, deleted the H411R, the supplied cooler is good enough for low to moderate heat loads and you save money. I estimated the cost of the H411R as I only found a South African cost. Revised build cost is one USD less than the initial build.
