Hi, i downloaded Ati tool with the intention of overclocking my Ati 9800 PRO However when i downloaded the program and opened it, it said that my default card speeds were 324 (core) and 290 (memory). Looking back on the Ati site the speed of my memory card was pretty much the same as a 9800 non-pro. I ran dx Diag and it says that i have a 9800 Pro. But why isn't my 9800 pro at the normal clock speeds?

Is there anything i can do to fix this probleM?

Thanks in advance

Btw, i was wondering if an x1600 Pro with 512mb is a good option for upgrading my graphics card.

A 9800 PRO should be 380 core 340(680) memory...

Some manufacturers do have questionable practices and lower the clocks a bit... in the days of the 9800 PRO, Powercolor was infamous for it.

But are you sure you didn't buy a 9800?

If you keep it, the core wil probably overclock to 350 at least, maybe even 375+ if you're lucky... as for the memory, it probably won't go much farther if it's an older card. But who knows? You'll have to try it to find out...

If it's underclocked then no big deal, just clock it up to the speeds it should be at with atitool. If it crashes then that is kind of messed up.

A mate of mine has a 9800pro and we checked the mem and core speeds and they were fairly low for a 9800pro so we tried to up the speeds in ati tool. The core rose about 50mhz but the memory wouldnt go up 1mhz without a screen full of artifacts. but the difference of the core speed made a pretty decent difference in games

Hopefully it's got a 256-bit mem interface. 8O 8O 8O I can't believe that the 9800, 9800 pro, 9700 pro, and 6800 have all shown up with crippled 128-bit mem interfaces. :x
