The scenario of the assignment is something like this: "Write a literature review on local area networks and how it impacts a business and its employees."

So they want you to write on a very technical topic that you have absolutely no background in. Why don't they tell you to write it in arabic while they are at it. This is one of those things where if you do not have the fundamental knowledge of how technology like this work you do not even understand the question.

You would first have to take a basic class on networks and then a class or two on generic IT functions to understand the business side of it.

If you want to see how industry people write papers do a search for "white papers" on topics. Those are written by analysts and other professionals describing a topic/technology and often it's impact on various parts of a company.
