Hi there

I just upgraded the cpu, memory and gpu of my pc. The gpu recognized ok, a bios update recognised the cpu, but the memory keeps getting called Kingston PC2-6400 (400MHZ) even though I bought Kingston PC2-8500 (533MHZ I think). Does anyone know how I may fix this? I didn't do a new WindowsXP install as it would be hassle. But should I really do one?
My mb is a Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3, cpu AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition, GPU XFX 275GTX.
Thanks

Your motherboard has to support pc8500 memory, and many boards run at a lower speed with all 4 slots filled. Try manually setting the memory at 533 in the bios, with 5-5-5-15 timings, and set the voltage at the spec for the memory, which should be 2.0-2.2 volts.

Thanks, I'll give that a go. My motherboard definitely supports pc8500 (Documentation days "Dual Channel DDR2 1066 for remarkable system performance") and only 2 slots are filled - 2x2GB. If there is any other info needed please just ask. Whilst I am ok building a new system, anything to do with changing settings or over/under-clocking is unknown to me.

EDIT: Now memory tab of CPU-Z is showing
DRAM Frequency 537MHz
FSB:DRAM 3.8
CL 5.0
tRCD 5
tRP 5
tRAS 15
tRC 31
CR 2T

but SPD tab still claims the Max Bandwidth is PC2-6400 (400MHz) and is only showing timings for 200 MHz, 266 MHz and 400MHz.

Where in the bios do I set the voltage? All I was able to do was increase it from the 'Normal' by increments of +0.025V
