Question wrong RAM speed in bios

I have just built my first system, I have a 9900k, with 32GB RAM (2 x 16GB Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX Black 2666mhz), on a Asus ws z390 pro motherboard.

When I first built the system a week ago the bios had the ram at the correct speed of 2666Mhz, but a week later I have noticed it is at 2133Mhz now.

I have tried resitting the ram, and also just trying one dimm, but it still always runs at 2133Mhz.

I don't want to overclock this system, I just want it to run at the recommended maximum non-overclocked speeds.

I've tried looking in other forum replies, but they always seem to talk about overclocking, so I hope you can help.

What would you recommend I do to get the ram running at its normal speed? Could the ram be broken? Should I ask corsair?

Many thanks!

I have XMP turned off currently. Would you recommend I turn it on?

The bios says XMP is for overclocking, which I don't want to do as I want this to be a stable workstation computer. Thanks!

Tested Latency

Tested Voltage

Tested Speed
2666MHz

SPD Latency

SPD Speed
2133MHz

SPD Voltage
1.2V

Memory runs at (SPD) Serial Presence Detect settings if left on [Auto] in BIOS. That would be the correct speed, 2133MHz, if memory parameters are not set manually or by enabling an XMP profile.

If you purchased modules sold as Singles:

Memory modules sold as Singles have no guarantee to be compatible if used in any configuration other the as a single module.

I suggest you list a part number or link to the memory you have a question about.

Thank you for your reply Calvin7.

You found the exact memory I bought - CMK32GX4M2A2666C16

Thanks I have now turned on XMP profile in bios to enable it to run at 2666Mhz.

Do you think I bought the correct RAM to run as fast as it can but not overclocked with a 9900k?

I'm still learning about these things, but the reason I went for 2666Mhz ram was because on the specifications for the motherboard it listed this under memory...

4 x DIMM, Max. 64GB, DDR4 4266(O.C.)/4200(O.C.)/4133(O.C.)/4000(O.C.)/3866(O.C.)/3800(O.C.)/3733(O.C.)/3600(O.C.)/3466(O.C.)/3400(O.C.)/3333(O.C.)/3300(O.C.)/3200(O.C.)/3000(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666/2400/2133 MHz Memory

So I thought 2666 was the best to get as it wasn't overclocking it.

Thanks for your help, I didn't know ram would default to 2133Mhz speed.

Hi man.
If you want to pair speed with the CPU without OC RAM you are not taking the full advantage of the 9900k.
Yes, the 9900k describe that it supports until 2666MHz RAMs, but it can really exploit easily stock 4000MHz+ memories. (non OC)

The only issue about those memories (4000MHz++) is their prices.

Since you are using XMP you are also overclocking the RAM. (XMP - eXtreme Memory Profile) But it is a safe recommended OC by the memories.

The Intel -K series are made for overclocking them. So fell free to overclock your components. You are safe

Thanks for your reply Sxino. Yeah maybe I'm being a wimp not wanting to overclock. I want this system to be as stable as possible, so thats why I thought overclocking was a bad idea for me. Hate the idea of losing some unsaved work because I tried to get the system 1% quicker.
