Have you had a chance to rumble around your hard disks and locate that new
version of the DSR/Dell System Restore image yet?

You said you blew away the factory image but is your utility partition still
intact?

The alleged DSR is supposed to be on recent to newer Dimensions in a similar
fashion as the old "zztop", except it's claimed that to restore the image
takes less than 15 minutes versus the older ZZTOP 40 minutes +.....

I've not been able to find documentation about said image or a path to check
it's integrity or to utilize it. BTW, I know you wouldn't use it with all
of its' bloatware anyway, but I thought maybe you'd come across it while
formatting or partitioning....

Anyone?

Sorry Stew. I blew away that partition also. Not so much the bloatware and
much as it is the way the "install" the OS at the factory.

No problem, boss. As I understand it, all of the 47XX, 84XX, (and one might
guess current to newer 24XX) will have the alleged DSR. We'll round one up
somewhere to find out where this thing is and how it works...or doesn't.

Thanks

CTL+F11 at boot :) Works like a charm, though it has no "image integrity
check" like the old zztop. Fast. Restored in about 7-8mins using Ghost.

Upon further investigation, fdisk now shows (3) partitions on the new drive:

1) Active - diags / utilities partition ( roughly 30+mb)

2) NTFS partition with the OS and largest part of the drive (varies with
drive capacity)

3) CP/B partition, some 3,500mb

Removing partition 1 kills the boot record (and thereby boot access to the
OS) as well as the restore feature, fwiw.

Stew, what is the CP/B partition?

The #3 CP/B partition I assume to be the (hidden from Windows) partition
where the DSR restore image resides (at over 3gb). Thing is, I deleted that
partition FIRST, or at least to the extent to where fdisk called it
deleted/gone and displayed it no more.

That said, the system could still restore the image and did so with it (#3)
removed :)

That was when I nuked the (#1) utilities diag. partition, which pretty much
killed the OS and access to the restore image.

I was not aware that the boot.ini/boot record (apparently) resides within
that small partition.

I'll play with it when my replacement system arrives.
