Hi, i am about to get a new pc. Here is wut i have been given to give a final check over before my olds buy it for me.

Wut i am not happy about is the motherboard and chip set. I cannot find the exact motherboard but all those on the soltek website with the 865G chipset have only 10/100 and i really want gigabite which only comes on the soltek 875p board. It does not also seem to come with all the bells of of other boards such as ASUS. Does anyone think the above system is all right for everyday use. I play games but am not really serious about them, i just mainly use my computer for anything i want to do and no one specifice thing. Oh one more think i do not want to get an AMD, i think ill say that now before everyone starts saying to go get one. I dont want one so dont bother trying to convince me to get one.
 
If you are into gaming, for the love of god get a better vid card, atleast a 9600pro or XT

How badly to you want gigabit ethernet? Do you transfer that much stuff over your network? Remeber your other computers will need to support it aswell.

If I were you I would get the P4 2.8c (not e) and the Abit IS7 then with the money saved get a better gfx card. But thats just me.

There's nothing wrong with the chipset, and if you really want Gigabit that bad you can get it, on that chipset, with the Abit IS7-G.

ewwww, I think you need to change somethings. Exspecially that graphics card. 9200se is IMO a piece of crap. If you aren't into gaming then get at least something with 128bit memory, it will at the least give you alittle better iq and better performance with video. If you are into gaming then that card wiln't get you anywhere, get the saphire 9800pro and drop the processor down to the 2.8c. And you might want to look into a little more reliable mobo. and BTW, why do you not want a amd system? I don't get it. If you don't video edit or encode then why bother paying more money for an intel system when you can get a athlon 2500+ xp-m & nforce2 combo for alot less and probably perform better for gaming.

Look i thought i made it clear that i did not want to get an amd. Ill say it agian, i dont want an amd. Got it? good. I have managed to track down the motherboard, a SL-865-GR. here are its specs, what do ppl think of soltek and inpaticular this motherboard. I would like to have some option of upgrading but its not meant to be future proof but have the option to later buy better components and turn it into something better. Its meant as a good start with ability to become a gaming machine later or what ever else i want it to be. I am also not into overclocking but it would be nice if the option was there. this is on a limited buget. My prefered board is the ASUS P4C800 Deluxe.

Thx for all those that helped and respected my decision not to get an amd. I think I will go with the ASUS P4C800 Deluxe, as it seems to offer ever thing I want and has potential to become a gaming computer or what ever else I want it to become in the future. And for those of you out there that might be think I have ever owned a Intel system then you might be interested to know that I am currently using a K6 233 and it is way slower than my 150 at home. Also I have never had any problems with Intel so why change what is working for me and what I am what happy with.
 
How much can your budget allow at the moment? Because your graphics card will not allow you to play any of the latest graphically intensive games. I really recommend getting the Radeon 9800pro, they are very cheap at the moment.

The thing I thought was funny is that he didn't give any reason to why he doesn't want an amd system. Even in my first post i asked for a reason to why he didn't want an amd and he responded ignorantly instead of naming a reason. If he had a hard time with one before than I'd understand. To simply say that he doesn't want one and not give a reason is beyond me. In my opinion it's like paying more for less. For what he wants his computer for a xp/nforce2 combo would do him wonders and save alot of money. I was just trying to help him out but I did get alittle harsh. For that I am sorry. It seems like he's buying a name rather than a better system.

That was the earlier generations, amd has changed alot since then.

yeah, I just built an a64 system, too bad the second i booted it up I blew out the power supply cause I was being stupid. I needed a floppy drive for sata raid drivers and i forgot to buy a floppy drive. So i decided to look threw my old parts and I found a floppy drive that was probably 6 years old, i figured, "hey this will work", well, to make a long story short the far left pin on the power connector was off center just alittle bit cause the power supply to overload and the wire to start to burn and melt, the power supply and the floppy drive are now kaput.
 
Yeh, I have short circuited about 3 power supplys and all have them just shut off and were fine afterwards.
