Hi everyone.

First poster here. 8)

My PC spec:

Asus A7 N8 x-x
AMD Barton 2800XP+ (*NOT* overclocked)
512mb PC3200 ram (mobo is only single channel)
Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 160GB EIDE Hdd
Maxtor ? ? ? 19GB EIDE Hdd
Geforce 4 MX440 64mb
Firewire PCI card
Modem 56k PCI card
PSU Q-Teq 400W

I ordered a cheap Sapphire Radeon X1600 Pro 256Mb AGP to replace the jurassic Geforce 4 mx.

Now two simple questions that I hope someone can answer:

1) Is the PSU going to be able to power up all the system with the new 3d card ?

2) I looked around the Asus website and found out that the AGP slot in the mobo is "1.5 Volts Only".

Is that a problem? Or it does not really matter?
I checked the X1600 series manual from the Ati website and it does not say anything about AGP slot volt requirements.

I thank in advance everyone that can help me, especially wth the second question, since buying a slighty bigger PSU is not a big problem but getting a 3d card I cannot use with the PC would be bad.

You're probably good with that PSU.

I think you're refering to the AGP 1.5 V specification. Older AGP boards were 3.0 V. 1.5V was the newer spec, and is the standard for AGPs today.

Your card will work with that board.

So, the mobo being 1.5v is just that it isn't retro-compatible with the older standard, eh?

Oh, thank you very much a lot for your answers.

I'm a little relieved. 😀

Now let's hope the card arrives in the shop soon
