Newbie pc builder here! Recently been looking into buying a NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti but my power supply has x2 8 pin power connectors while the nvidia has a 16pin. Can I combine the 8 pins and run the GPU that way or do I need to get a new power supply or adapter

Compatible adapter is included with GPU.

It looks like so:

do I need to get a new power supply
Depends on what you have.

PSU make and model (or part number) is? Also, how old the PSU is, and was the PSU bought new or used/refurbished?

I have an EVGA 450 BR 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX PSU, it’s probably about 4-5 years old, as are all the parts in my pc but it was bought new when I got it

New PSU is a must since EVGA BR-series is low quality PSU, borderline crap. And the fact that your PSU survived so long, is a small miracle.

For a RTX 40-series ATX 3.0/3.1 PSU would be best. So, you can start by looking here,

With ATX 3.0/3.1 PSU, you don't need to use the adapter. The PSU comes with a correct cable that directly connects from PSU to the GPU.

But ATX 2.2/2.5 PSUs also work, when using the adapter. Some such good quality PSUs include: Seasonic Focus/Vertex/PRIME, Corsair RMx/RMi/HXi/AXi, Super Flower Leadex Gold/Platinum/Titanium.
There are ATX 3.0 variants of Seasonic Focus and PRIME. While Seasonic Vertex is ATX 3.0 off the bat.

(My 3x PCs are also powered by Seasonic. I have 2x PRIME TX-650 units and one Focus PX-550 unit. Full specs with pics in my sig.)

lmaoooo knowing that I’m surprised too. My friend made my build for me back in 2020 but I’ll take a look at some of these PSUs.

Do you have any recs for the best ones to get on a lower budget?

Depends on your location, since market availability and pricing differs from country to country. E.g USA, UK, Europe, Asia, Oceania etc.

But overall, Seasonic Focus is usually priced well, so anyone can afford it.

But if you do not have money for proper, good quality PSU, then don't get RTX 4060 Ti (~$400). Instead, get RTX 4060 (~$300). This way, with cheaper GPU, you have more money left over (~ extra $100) for proper PSU.

Keep in mind: since PSU powers everything, it is the most important component inside the PC.
With this, do not cheap out on PSU! Also, don't buy used PSU either.

No matter how much extra FPS there is, 50, 100, 5000, it is NEVER worth on cheaping out on PSU.
