x300 toshiba firmware identify and swap

My HDD got a powersurge, and would not be recognise in pc anymore, so i want to try swap the pcb, but the replacement pcb has more than 3 chips with 8 pin chips on it. And on the replacment board the seller put 3 arrow stickers on those chips, pointing to a 8 pin chip. So im confused do i only need to replace the one chip. (Was hard to find same model pcb, but couldnt not find the exact rev as mine. But found one in china, so commuication is bit hard to ask questions.)

To be honest, without a more up-close picture of each chip, or at the very least having the full PCB number, it's hard to say.
I'd suggest you take a good look with a magnifier and a small flashlight, google each chip and see what it's used for, that should give you some idea.
But from a technical standpoint, all of those chips are easy to swap.

what´s the complete model number of your HDD?

Also you can try to just remove the TVS diodes, which shorten the circuit in case of overvoltage/overcurrent, By removing these, the safety feature is off and the PCB will be damaged next time a power surge or similar (wrong external power supply) will happen.

i cant find much info on it , too modern, or such low fail rates no one tallks about.

i did i multimeter test on the TVS seems good, which is a shame , then i could of just replace those. Also i dont have a heat gun, to take these chips off, need to find a guy, my area seem to lack anyone who dos small electronic repairs.

I've looked it up, but was unable to find specific information in regards to the firmware chip's location unfortunately!
As said before, you have two options here, either swap all said chips, or have a good look with a magnifier+flashlight, google each of em, and determine which one/s would need swapping. Set that aside, any local phone repair shop should be able to do it, and in addition to that, due to the simple design, those chips can also be removed using a soldering iron (with the right technique)

I also need to swap the bios for my md04aca400 4tb drive but my g3626a board doesn't have stickers pointing to the bios chip. To which chip did the stickers on your board point? Did you try replacing just the 25q80bl and did it work?

AFAICT, you need to transfer all 4 ICs.

BTW, those are not TVS diodes. Toshiba's "protection" circuitry is practically useless.

Thanks all:

I moved IC10 from my old g3626a board to the replacement board and my drive is reading now. Great. Mission accomplished thanks to this forum thread!

I must add a cavet. I'm not 100% certain that the fix came from the IC swap since I also found a solder bridge on the replacement board which I also had to fix. Still its likely that IC10 is the bios chip that needs to be swapped.

@befreetech, it's strange that your experience differs from "Nick_CT" at HDD Guru. Based on my analysis of the contents of IC10 (and IC9,11,12) I would have thought that the other 3 ICs were backups of IC10 (or earlier firmware versions, or factory firmware), so I would have expected that IC10 should work on its own, as was the case for you.
