I have narrowed it down to 2 motherboards for my ryzen 1600x. I am looking at the Asus prime x370 pro and the Gigabyte Aurous x370 k7. I want to overclock to 3.9 -4.0 lottery willing. I will also be running an approved 3200 ddr4 ram. I am not a hardcore overclocker more of a casual enthusiast. I will game on it primarily and will use my gtx 970 until the gpu manufacturers decide to quit railing us. I really like the Gigabyte board but heard the prime is really good. I can not afford the crosshair or it would be a no brainer. I also have not had much luck with asrock. Thx

The MSI board has a USB type C connector and PS/2 port, whereas the Asus board has a DisplayPort connection and a 3rd PCIe x16 slot.

Many think Asus has the best UEFI bios layout of all the motherboard manufacturers.

I have read that the vrm heatsinks on the MSi are lacking, and that it takes longer to post.

I would take the asus between those two boards.
Well the good b350 boards are $90-120 with the b350 board buildazoid recommending coming in at $140 and the boards I mentioned are $150 ish. And they have sli capability and much better components for $30-40 bucks. I think this would future proof me for a Ryzen 7 and possibly sli for another 970 if I chose to go that route. Thank you for your suggestions but I will be going with a x370 chipset.j

If you do have your heart set on a x370 over a b350, (based on things I have heard from others, for I have never owned either of the boards) I would take the Asus, unless you are really into the extra RBG the aurous provides.

Right on thx for input. And I appreciate the other ideas on a b350 board but cant see paying almost the same money. If there was a good b350 under 100 bucks I would look at it. I did look at the msi tomahawk but reviews say the vrms are weak.

I'm very satisfied with my Asus Prime x370 Pro although BIOS is still not ideal. It pays to get good MB now, makes it easier to upgrade processor later on. It's also feature rich MB with a lot of USB3 ports, a USBc 3.1 but not second gen. 10 SATA ports, all high speed + an M.2 that doesn't interfere with any SATA port. Also very robust VRM allowing for high OC.

Thx for all of your input it is greatly appreciated. And looking at all of your thoughts I have realised I would be fine with a top of the line b350. I may crossfire in the future maybe so I do not need sli. I also just game primarily and see no need for all the expansion and sata slots on the x boards. So I am now looking at 2 boards. The Asus ROG Strix B350 and the MSI B350 Pro Carbon. Which one? Lol

Right on guys. Looks like Asus it is. I was leaning towards it anyway because I have never tried an Asus board and it has top of the line audio. It also has really good vram and mosfets.

I think I am a bit late but I also think that Strix B350 would be the better choice. The only downside is that its nice rgb strip is going to be covered up by the graphics card. Otherwise it is pretty much the best b350 board. Good luck :)
