Booted up my PC this morning and about 5 seconds into Windows XP (Pro Edition) I got the Blue Screen Of Death 🙁

"The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ati2dvag

The device driver got stuck in infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incrorrectly"

Thought it might be a one off so i rebooted machine but the message came up again. Started Windows XP in safe mode and searched for the file "ati2dvag" and found about 5 in different locations. Deleted all of them, rebooted into safe mode with networking and downloaded the ATI Driver for XP making sure i had deleted the previous one.

Rebooted again, this time in normal mode but the blue screen of death appeared again. I have been repeatedly deleting the file, installing ATI Drivers again and again and again and have even tried Omega ATI Driver without succes.

Could this mean it's a hardware problem (basically is my X800XT bust ?)

Before installing the ATI drivers, unistall the old ones properly. Use ATI's unintall utility through add/remove programs to remove what's left of the drivers. Deleting driver files is not the same as uninstalling them.

If you are unfamilar with unistalling drivers, see here for instructions:

The link doesn't bring you right to the page, so cut and paste the line below into the advanced search at the top and it will bring up the page.

737-20561: Removing Old ATI Software

I did use the ATI uninstall feature in the add/remove menu. I'll try the registry editing in a minute and will let you know the result.

Fixed it now. I remove EVERYTHING on my PC beggining with "ATI" including all registry keys then rebooted in normal mode and downloaded the new catalyst 6.4, thanks for your help.
