I recently tried to fire up my old hd-dvd drive in windows 10. It reads and plays DVD's without an issue, but whenever i insert any of my HD-DVD windows 10 shows the file system as unknown and cannot open or play the drive... please see attached screenshots.

What could be causing this?? I would assume that if the drive can play a standard DVD then it must be working ok...

Yeah, W10 dropped native support for playback & other elements, so I'm not 100% sure.
I suspect, with the right software/codecs installed, you'll be fine.

Barty,

No issues getting the right software, im just trying to avoid shelling out $$ for something that doesnt work. Ive got about 30 or 40 HD-DVD from before they lost the war with BluRay, if i can get them running i just want to rip them all into my Plex library so i can turf the discs/drive

From some Google searching, MakeMKV works (and is free, I believe).
Worth checking whether the HD-DVDs are accurately detected with that initially.

While I'm sure there are better (paid) options, at least that gives you a starting point to see if software inside Windows can truly detect/read the disks.
