Count me in as well. I gave the PS1 to my nephew and I am playing FF Origins
in the PS2. Also sometime is refreshing to play old PS1 games and I want to
have the option to play them even in the PS10.

On paper, the PS2 graphics were spectacular. But games optimized for the
Xbox looked better than games optimized for the PS2. So graphics prowess
(on paper) means nothing.

While 1080p is part of the ATSC spec, no TVs support it. Why? Too
expensive. By the time 1080p is implemented in TVs, the PS4 will be out.
So for now, 1080p is not a selling point for anyone.

I've never had more than 3 other folks over to play Xbox live, but still, 7
controller options is pretty sweet.

This is a potential deal breaker for many. If the PS3 has a street price
that matches the Xbox 360, then this is a nice feature. But I am fairly
certain that the PS3 will sell for a considerable amount more than the Xbox
360n for this feature alone. Very expensive.

Overall, I'd have to wait for the PS3 price to become final before making a
jump. But as of today, Xbox 360 has the edge.

I think that sentence was kinda supposed to read like, "that would allow
users to play original versions of games by other developers, in addtion to
works created by Nintendo".

I agree, it was written wonky, but it's probably just a shitty english
translation of something originally written in Japanese...lol.

My parents and I both have TVs that support it. (Well, my parents have a

You don't know what the hell you're talking about.
1080p already exist on projectors and certain T.V's.
Hi-Def DVD players will launch later this year and most if not all
electronic manufacturers will be bringing out 1080p sets in the not to
distant future. By the time the PS3 is released there will be a lot of 1080p
sets on the market. Yes, they will be expensive at 1st but we all (well

There are a handful of very expensive displays around that can handle
1080p, but you can bet your ass Sony will bring a very affordable 1080p
range to market in time for the PS3. It just doesn't make sense not to.

Either/or. Offering a tiered service (say... $1 a game or 20 games for
$10 a month) would be an improvement.

Point is that 1080p is very expensive to implement. Does no matter if it's
on only a handful of sets as of today. Remember when TVs only had 1080i?
Took 4 years before 720p was standard, and that is when the price was
reasonable for consumers. By the time 1080p is mainstream, PS4 will be out.
So yes, except for a handful of early adopters, the 1080p feature will be
unused until the PS4 hits the street.

I was thinking rendered at 1080p, output as 1080i, Easier to downconvert
1080p to 720p than i to p, too.

But 1920x1080 DLPs are gonna be affordable to manufacturers in the next
12 months, so who knows. Like I said, Sony would be nuts not to have
"the only TV that can get the full potential from the PS3!" on the
market at the same time.

Which 1080p projector do you have? I'm curious to know what you think of
it, I'm looking at HD projectors but I'm probably gonna settle for a
cheaper 720p LCD one like the Panasonic AE700.

Go to AVSForum and read up on the Ae700. Lots of issues with that PJ...
you'll have to tweak the hell out of it, but you'll be happy with the
resulting picture.

If it were we, I'd pass on the LCDs and get a DLP.

Yeah, but I currently have an AE100 and all the issues with that weren't
a big deal to me, so I tend to stay away from reading about "issues" on
things like this and try it for myself. Meanwhile, with DLP I see
rainbows on *everything* so unless 3-chips become 10x cheaper than they
currently are it's LCD for me.

Exactly. Sony'll get *a* set (or possibly two) to market for the launch of
the PS3, but "lots" of sets available when the PS3 launches?

And who will even care? It's tough enough just selling people on HD sets.
How hard do you think it'll be to sell them on something that broadcasters
don't even support? NDNet? INHD? ABC? CBS? Fox? NBC?

I admit, I'll mark if they're cheap enough to get in something that's LCD,
and I'd love to get one...but I've got 13 HD stations, and it's tough enough
finding content in 1080i.

Right now I have a borrow with intent to own/purchase Qualia from a local
(well 30 miles from me) dealer.
It's the 1st generation Qualia. I own a Sim2 E-Link projector that I am
comparing the Qualia to. The Qualia's resolution is breath taking but I
actually prefer the color and depth of my Sim2 more. I haven't really had
time to calibrate the Qualia though. I have a couple weeks to play around
with and decide whether or not I am going to keep it. I also on a Samsung
1080p t.v. That thing is awesome but I prefer the big screen.

What's your price range?
There are a few really excellent projectors around the price of the Panny
700.
Personally I prefer DLP for gaming over LCD but some people have problems
with rainbows.
The biggest problem with LCD's is their panels fade over time.

The PS3 isn't coming out until Fall 2006. By that time there will be
considerably more 1080p set than a handful.
This upcoming fall there will probably be several to choose from. By the
time the PS3 is launched I believe under 3K will be a good possibilty for a
1080p set. If not, I'm sure it won't take too long before they are.

Why not shoot high like Sony with the PS3 having 1080p capabilities?

Dude, seriously, get real, the PS3 will most likely be around until 2012 (if
not longer), by then 1080p will most likely exist well below 1k dollar
T.V.'s. Hell, you might possibly be able to get 1080p technology in sub
$1,000 a year or 2 after the PS3 is launched. Technology only moves faster
and faster as the years fly by.

I say more power to Sony for providing this feature.
