why why do people say things like it is just $4 a month, that doesn't matter, the cost adds up

people who say it is only $4 a month are the same idiots who get sucked into the ads that say, "only 20 EASY payments of $5.99"

look at the cost in the long run and not the immediate cost

microsoft likes finding ways to nickel and dime you for as much money as possible

I really don't like putting myself in the position of sounding like a Microsoft basher. But, $100 is completely ridiculous. Either there are mentally retarded (I'm sorry... mentally challenged) individuals in Microsoft's marketing department, or this is an introductory price that will be cut in half in a few weeks, or maybe there is a manufaturing problem and they don't actually have the ability to sell large quatities.. or, perhaps the Tom's article is incorrect?

i laugh at all you xbox fans even more now its 100 buck. in a way i feel sorry for you. you have to pay extra to get wireless internet. while all of us with a ps3 have ours built in.

F*ck MS and the Crapbox 360. This crap that Xbox live is so much better thus it is a privilege to pay MS to play on their crapbox live service, give me a freaking break.
If it was not for PC games I would not have anything fro MS in house. MS can take their f*cked up Games for Winblows Live service (STEAM wannabe) and stuff it too. I don't buy a game if it requires I connect to GFWL.
I will stick with Linux for my main OS and get a PS3, value for my money and no worries about a RROD either.

Nope. I've never bought anything off of an infomercial.

Here is a real question. What do you think of all the "idiots" that spent $600 on the ps3 upon it's initial release? That seems like a pretty large cost in the long run when considering the fact that it dropped down to $300 for a better model.

Sorry but it still remains illogical to be able to own both consoles and not afford the live subscription, especially when the the ps3's online services don't come close. If you really can't afford it, give up one happy meal/month and then you can afford it.

Another overpriced accessory most people don't need.
I'm all about the ethernet connection myself. I was on a great drive to retake the lead after the 2:00 minute warning in a close Madden game last year when the wifi dropped.

[citation][nom]truerock[/nom]What's the deal with the external antennas? I thought they died last year. Microsoft trying to save a $1 or $2?[/citation]
It looks cool, that way the kiddies will say, "Mommie, mommie I want one!" They will throw a tantrum that their friend has one and they don't to play the new piece of crap from Activision then MS will ban their crapbox by mistake thinking it is modded.

Better model except for backwards compatibility, which is important for me. I paid 400 for mine and it was worth every penny considering at the time a good bluray player was around the same price. I don't feel foolish at all, since mine came with MGS4 and a combo deal with a HDTV!

I was upset when I found out that I needed to fork out another $75 for the first wireless adapter and then another $50/year for the "Gold Membership" network access just to get Netflix. Honestly, it's a rip-off, even more so that the PS3 now supports Netflix at no costs (wireless built in, no network fee.)

Right now it's looking like the 360 is shaping up to be the Mac of the game console world, what with their Microsoft tax.

This, form someone who owns both a PS3 and 360 Elite.

[citation][nom]skykaptain[/nom]$85 will get you enough ethernet cable to go all around your house a few times before hitting up your router. Plus ethernet doesn't go down when some one calls your cordless land line.[/citation]
Change your router?

My wireless doesn't go down every time someone calls my cordless land line.

That problem was for people with 2.4GHZ band and people with 5.8ghz or dect 6.0 don't have this problem.

for me I hate both the 360 and the PS3, since I got a good deal on my xbox 360, I use it with orb 2.0 to watch videos on my tv. I don't play games on it because there too expensive and also because the memory card or hard drive are both overpriced

they charge monthly fees for xbox live when other companies do the same thing for free. xbox live does nothing that justifies the cost each month

the xbox is also more expensive than a PS3 when you add up the cost it takes to play a game.

a PS3 comes with everything needed while a hard drive, you need a hard drive, then to play online you need to pay a monthly fee while with the PS3 it is free

only problem is both consoles generally suck for gaming due to the cost for games and the DRM problems
the live subscription will eventually become more expensive than the console as the cost adds up. it is smarter to buy 1 device that gets the job done and not cost you extra, than to buy a device that carries with it a monthly fee which will eventually add up to more than the console is worth.

I have been on Xbox Live since Mechassault, and back then you could hardly call it a service. I don't recall but I think Live might have even been more expensive back then. Seeing that Live has only grown ten-fold since then, I have no reason to switch to trying to make PS3 my online gaming supplier.

So let's say what if you are right that the two services are EQUAL in quality even when the xbox 360 charges for its service. Maybe its just me and my area, but I never here people saying "hey man you wanna get on PSN later?". Everyone I have ever known has gotten their online experience from 360 or the PC. So maybe the area I am in is somehow biased as to which system they prefer, but I would venture to say that the PSN community is NOTHING compared to that of the Live Community.

Here is the dealbreaker. I would love to get a PS3 if
a) i felt the online service was equal in quality and had just as large of an online gaming community
b) i felt that good games were actually being designed for the ps3 and not as ports

now how does one go about finding those two things out? well as EVERYONE knows (pc guys im sorry, but don't start flaming) Modern Warfare 2 just came out. It's supposed to be up for best selling game, game of the year, blah blah blah. It would be interesting and very informative to see just how many buy copies of this game for each system and how many participate in the online community. I'm sure the information will be out there, but I am not sure where.

My beef with the ps3 is not with the system and its nice features. It's bang for the buck is definitely better in terms of what's included for the price. As for the free online "service", I still venture to say that it's not on par with the 360. To all you Xbox Live haters out there, who do you think designed your precious PSN? Not Sony. Everything seems to be a borrowed idea (which is in no way wrong) from Xbox Live.

Only time will tell which system is really superior. The PS3 has seen a jump in sales thanks to the lowered price, but let's see how long that lasts. What everyone should be doing is asking Sony/Microsoft what the next consoles will be like and when will they be released. Even if i wanted a ps3, it probably wouldn't be a good idea for me to buy one if there will be new consoles in 2012...

the xbox 360 online is better than that of the PS3 but neither is worth paying for

the online experience of online gaming or even that on steam is better than whats on the xbox live and guess what, these are offered for free, all you need is the game

[citation][nom]touchdowntexas13[/nom]sorry bud. you are missing out. however your reasoning for not connecting to your network is rather weak. You should have just got the arcade version version if you aren't going to connect to a network. the fact that you own both an elite and a ps3 does not make you exempt from "fanboism". I didn't realize it costs $40/month to connect your xbox to your network. what effing country do you live in?[/citation]

agreed what a dearest comrade

i definitely cannot agree there. I like steam, but it would not be my preferred method social online gaming. I think it's a very simple interface that works for the pc, but in terms of actual content there is no way it competes with live. Steam is free based on the fact that there is just not that much there. What live does so well is get people to play games online together and socialize. steam does not add anything in that category.

Latest flame war is underway.
This is an article about the new Xbox wireless adaptor, not about the contest between PS3 and 360 fan boys. Any posts that include information about PS3's or saying you should buy one is just being a troll douchebag, go post somewhere comparing the 2 systems.

[citation][nom]nonstoprobot[/nom]Wise shoppers won't buy it at all & put that $88 twords a PS3 with built in wireless & free online gaming IMHO[/citation]

This is where things get complicated. A wise shopper wouldnt have bought a PS3 till they dropped the priceyet millins did, right? A wise shopper wouldnt have supported Sony in the first place.

A wise "gamer" will still buy a 360 for the same reasons they id so far. Better online, better comunity, getter crossplatforms and better and more exclusives ( from Fables and Alan wake to Left 4 Dead etc ). And on the side a Natal. which is said to cost only 50$.

When u buy you buy what ur looking for. Not Not just somethign thats cheaper and like i said that was proved from PS3 being sold before the4 pricedrop wen the console had literally no even an Uncharted ( and i say that cause thats the only thing thats worth on th console so far since no other good exclusives and the rest look better on the 360).

Cant argue with that can you? :)

"Wise" users will hardwire, wireless is just retarded. Even wireless N wouldn't stream my 150MB+ HD streams properly to my PS3's if it had N.

Let's stop bickering about the 360 vs ps3, they both have their place. The PS3 rocks as a media server/linux box, the 360 is slightly better for gaming. If I didn't have my PC's for gaming, I'd have a 360, but I'd never use it as a media center, it sucks for that compared to the PS3.

Ahhh, now we know why the PS3 was almost 100$ more than the xbox 360... it's the wireless network! PS3 has it built in, so it's got the 100$ premium attached to it.

lol.. MS fail on this one. Sorry.

I got one. Driver disc doesn't appear to work. Put it into the 360 and it just says its a "Mixed Media Disc" with the option to eject it.

And as to every comment above. Yes it was expensive and it is only option at the moment for reasons that are none of your business. And yes I already have a PS3 sitting right next to the Xbox so save your breath on that front too.

I just came here look to see if anybody else was having the same problem. Xbox support hasn't gotten back to me, not that they even list it on their site yet.
