So I'm upgrading my NAS from a HP DL320 G5p to a Dell Poweredge R610. I'm going to put a very low power Xeon in the old Proliant, remove a few fans and make it into a router, so I have an X3210 Xeon laying around. Now, I was wondering if I could throw that X3210 into an Optiplex 755 just for shits and giggles. The 755 is just an extra PC, so if it messes it up I don't really care... I picked it up for like $5. My question is not if it's supported. I know the X3210 is probably way too power hungry. But could it work? I know E3-1230 V3 runs on Z97 chipsets, and I was wondering if it was true with old 775 Xeons.
