XFX 7770 vs GTX 295

So i was thinking about upgrading my XFX 7770 by getting another one but then i saw that my motherboards other pci e slot is an x4. So i went on hwcompare.com and saw that the 295 is ALOT better than my card but im not sure if i would get better performance if i just got another 7770 or just got one GTX 295 or 285. Then i heard that i may not be able to play some games in the future without a DX11 card. Are there any games right NOW that require a DX11 card or am i mistaken?

why would you get a 3 to 4 year old card now? are you getting it for free or some insanely low price? If I were you I would put money down on a more modern card that supports dx11....not bc games will require you to have dx11 to run but bc there is no sense sinking money into old parts...what is your budget? we can help you pick a card out.

Well, I would recommend the 7770 over a really old card, as the 295 has a very high power draw. Also, buying a used card is like buying a used car. The card might have alot of dust and show signs of wear and tear. Unless the card is like dirt cheap, I would just keep what you have.

And hwcompare isnt the best place to compare graphics cards. There are no games right now that require DX11.

Keep in mind that the GTX 295 runs ALOT hotter and uses alot more power then the 7770 even if the 7770 is crossfired. The GTX 295 requires a minimum power supply of 680w or greater while the HD 7770 x2 will require 600w. Sure the crossfired 7770 wont give as enough raw power as the Dual GPU GTX 295, but the 295 is only a directX 10 gpu. Soon enough, DX10 will be phased out in future games and the GTX 295 will fall behind the 7770 which supports DX11.
I'd recommend getting another 7770 and crossfire your setup.

Some future games might require DX11 (the Unreal 4 engine supposedly needs DX11 or DX11.1 because it was coded to be as efficient as possible on modern hardware rather than being bogged down by support for long outdated hardware and I've heard that other engines might make similar changes in future versions), but I don't think that any current game requires anything more than DX9 (although many work a lot better in DX10 and DX11).

I recommend simply getting another Radeon 7770 for CF. It is an excellently scaling card and has a lot of overclocking headroom.

Also, like others have said, HWCompare is not a good way to compare graphics cards. It is all theoretical. They usually don't even use benchmarks and they don't account for driver efficiency at all.

Two 7770s in CF will give far more graphics performance than a single GTX 295. They have better multi-GPU scaling and overclock better in addition to having superior stock performance due to the superior scaling. Heck, even two 6850s are considerably faster than a single GTX 295 and they don't scale nearly as well in CF.

If the card does not have dx11 the game will force it to be in dx10. Getting a 7770 is better right now because you will most likely get a refurbished/OEM GTX2xx. In that case you will have to buy missing pieces that the manufacturer did not provide.
