Hi, I bought a new XFX 7950 CORE EDITION, this both happens with 13.1 and 13.2 Beta updates of Catalyst. I measure using GPU Sark 0.5.4.

On IDLE, according to catalyst, it is with 0% activity, 300Mhz clock, 150Mhz mem clock, energy 0%, fan 20% and TEMP 44ºC
The temperature in the room is'nt higher than 23ºC - 30ºC

In Catalyst, it's set at 900MHz (I didn't change the configuration) core clock.
Everything like that, runing FURMARK, runs into 100ºC .. I stoped it before ending the test for obvious reasons...
If I manually set the FAN to 100%, it then reaches 89ºC

Something similar happens in Far Cry 3, reaching easily 90ºC ingame load.
In Crysis 3, all maxed out, with 100% FAN manually fixed, gets to 84ºC ingame.

I have a case Aerocool Strike-x one advance , and a fx8350 , I bought everything 2 weeks ago, dust can't be the problem.

Is the Card OK or is it too hot for being a 7950? I'm seing people with 25 .. 30º IDLE and 60 load temps . . . thanks

Well, first of all, the DD cooler is almost as bad as the reference cooler. Its loud, its hot, its cheap, and its crap. VRM temps are atrocious too, hitting almost 85 degrees in some tests at stock volts (While most other 7950's were hitting around 50-70 degrees)

However, its not meant to be that high. Definitely a fault. Return it and get a different cooler, preferably not from XFX. If you want the lifetime warranty, don't buy into that crap. The card won't be that great for gaming past the standard manufacturer 3 years for all the other cards anyways.

I support what JJ1217 said.

Just return it back and change it for another one with better cooling. Yeah a Sapphire would be good, still I'd prefer the Asus one or the Gigabyte. A close friend had the Gigabyte HD7950 and it had a very good cooling solution and it ran pretty cool, until we disamble it and installed a waterblock 😛

Yeah, I can vouch my Asus 7950 (V2 version has the same cooler as the 7970), and when it was clocked to 1100, I don't see it get past 61 degrees celcius in 40 degree ambient. Three slots thick though.
