XMP not working

Hello, I built my computer a while back and am now starting to look into overclocking it. I started with Xmp, it ran fine for the first 30min had it on. But when I ran a game like over watch I get a straight crash (not even a blue screen). I have the latest BIOS version for my motherboard. I contacted corsair (memory manufacture) and gigabyte (motherboard manufacture). Corsair told me to run memtest86, I ran around 6 test and each of them had 0 errors. I also ran 1 test for each stick of memory. Gigabyte only told me that I have to disable XMP and manfully adjust my multiplier. Now I am find with manually doing that, but I would like to know why I can't enable XMP? and if there is anything at fault here? I can show the test results but they don't give much info. Sadly Corsair Vengeance RAM has a history of Not running at it's full rated speed on Ryzen systems.
I would do what Corsair recommended and try manually setting the RAM frequency (speed) and primary timings in the BIOS and see if that works.
You could also set the XMP profile BUT then set the RAM frequency lower (try 2933) and see if that works.
If 2933 works then try 3200 and if that works you can try 3466.

Or return that Corsair RAM kit and get a G.Skill or Crucial kit that is listed on your motherboards Memory compatibility list (for Ryzen 3000 CPUs).

What do you mean you can't enable your XMP? Remember, XMP is just a timing profile. All the BIOS does is copy those settings.

So are saying you are trying to load the XMP profile and it just doesn't take on reboot? Upon POST (Power On Self Test) the memory tries a quick check at rated speed. If it fails to read/write properly it will revert to it's safe defaults.

If you are on manual mode, you are bypassing XMP profile settings. You are saying you want to hand enter them. If you hand enter them make sure your voltage is 1.35V. I assume all your other timings also match. Also look at the memory temperatures if possible. If you knocked the heat spreader loose, it might explain why it's getting flakey. Also anything over 3200MHz is overclocking and not guaranteed. While 3600MHz is pretty common for most, 4 slots populated is really pushing your luck with that memory. (You didn't say how many sticks you had)

DMAN is correct however. Corsair never made the best quality memory. Back off one or two speed bumps and try again.

What I meant to explain is that I can run XMP normally, but when I start to load my computer like if I play a game or something I get the crash. To explain it better the whole computer either reboots or just shutdown. Also I have 2 sticks of DDR4 Ram, and currently I set my voltage to 1.35 and the speed at 3400Mhz, are these stable settings?

Run some Memory tests to see if your RAM is stable.

Right click on TPU-MemTest64.exe and choose Run as Adminstrator.
If it fails to allocate the Memory again lower the amount in the drop down box to 10 or 11 GB.

how many loops should I run it for?

I would run it for at least 5 loops for a fairly quick test.
For a thorough test you can let it run overnight.

So as I was running those tests, my computer completely black screened. It didn't turn off just reloaded windows. Almost like a restart with no off time. I got to around 7 of those loops with no errors before I had the crash. Don't know if it was the speed that caused this or the memtests. Since then I have reverted all of my speeds and voltage back to auto.

I would run Memtest86, which runs from a USB stick.
That will eliminate Windows from the equation.

So would you want me to run the test with stock XMP, or with XMP but with the speed modification, or no XMP and manual multiplier and manual voltage?

I would run it however you are running it now and see what happens.
If it returns errors run it set at a lower speed (like 3200).

And just to be clear you are setting the XMP profile (so that the timings and voltage get properly changed) and then lowering the Memory Frequency correct ?

well I've ran memtest86 before as per corsair request but only at base speeds. I ended having no errors on those and I can show the tests. I will test again tonight with XMP and modified speed.

That's good.
That lets you know the RAM is not actually faulty.
So you just need to figure out what speed they will actually work at.

You need to post them somewhere (Google Drive/Imgur) they can be viewed by anyone.
