On the a asus A7v133 with 512 ram and Amd 1.4 I find XP Home to be alittle sluggish at time. I closed every thing I did not need running, Did a defrag. I can right click on the front screen to go to properties and it can take up to 10 Seconds for the property box to pop up. When I disable norton virus 2002 I can sut that time to 4 or 5 seconds. Is there any tricks to speeding up XP so it will run at the speed I built this PC to run. By the way I get the daily archive of XP Question and answers and really enjoy reading the all. Keep up the good work. Bruce

What graphics card do you have? Unlike previous versions of Windows, a graphics card with GUI acceleration is need to make WinXP fast.

My complete system consist of ,1.4 ThunderBird, envida Georce 2 400 , 64meg., 512 ram, Sound Blaster live 128,Asus CD-rom 50x.Yamaha, 16-10-40 Burner,LS-120 Drive, and the others like modem, lan card. It is funny that some nights with the same things running it will faster that the night before when it was slower.I am using crucial ram. I am running GO Back but I never lost that much speed before with it running. Go Back will step aside when you are working and it will catch up when you are Idle.Norton antivirus does slow me down some and after I boot to the start page which takes a minute, it is another minute before norton enables it's self. I hope the graphics card is a good one , I have updated the drivers for it. Thanks Bruce

Weird, nVidia cards include complete acceleration for Windows XP, so I don't understand what's holding you back. Monitor your RAM usage on the Performance tab of the Windows Task Manager.
