XP IRQ Overload

Hello all,

I need help with my XP Pro edition. It loaded around 6-7 different things on to IRQ 9 and I don't know how to switch it. Can someone give me details on how to fix this problem as I now have no sound.

This question came up with Windows 2000 as well. They both load everything they can onto one IRQ, because add in boards that meet the PCI 2.1 spec must be able to share an IRQ. This leaves the other IRQs open for components that can't share an IRQ, and reducing the chance of you running out of IRQs. So this shouldn't be a problem.
To answer your question: try and look for another reason why you can't get sound (speakers plugged in? :)) if your card is a fairly new one with updated drivers.
If it's an older card, you can disable ACPI in bios, and that should force 2000/XP to give everything its own IRQ.

Some hardware drivers are not updated specifically for XP as yet. Knowing what your sound card is would help. Having said that..XP often will accept "2000 only" drivers for some hardware even if XP doesnt recognize them as being "digitally signed".
