XP kills floppy drives?

Ok folks I have just installed Windows XP on my ABIT KT7A RAID mobo/system and my ASUS A7V266E RAID mobo/system and upon final OS install reboot..boot up self test showed floppy drive failure both machines a few minutes apart. Nothing I have tried has been able to render them functional again. It is a bit hard to believe that both drives went bad that fast.
Any ideas?

I am not making fun of you but that is some really heavy coincidence.
I have the same Asus board and it works fine.

yeah, i have xp installed on a different board, and nothing is wrong.
try a different floppy cable?
try plugging it in different?
i dont think that xp is going to kill your hardware.

I think zpyrd is on the right track, that you need to check your ribbon cable to make sure
it is plugged in correctly. Double check the #1 pin on both the board and the floppy. The
#1 pin is in a different location compared to the ide connectors.

Yeah, already considered that, as well as new cables, but I do appreciate the suggestions.

Thing is, I never disconnected either floppy to start with, just installed new OS.

are you sure the floppy drives are dead?
did you try them in a different system?
maybe your floppy drive controller is messed up?
