XP No audio cable needed?

Does everyone know this already? According to what I've read, the need for an audio cable between CD-ROM/DVD is no longer for XP. It sends the audio through the PCI bus.

Yeah, this also works in Windows 2000. There's a setting that you can enable digital audio (PCI bus) instead of analog (audio cable). By default, it's set to on.

System Properties > Device Manager > double click your CD-ROM drive > Properties tab > "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-Rom device"

But wouldn't that require more CPU cycles to play CDs?

Yeah, I think it does. I disabled it because I don't listen to CDs. Some people I've read had problems burning CDs, then someone recommened they disable this setting, and the problem went away.
