Is Windows XP Pro 64 bit going to be compatible with current programs and processors etc? Or do you need to have a 64 bit processor in order to use it? If it is compatible, is there going to be an improvement in system performance coupled with using the 64 bit version instead of the 32?

Running P4 2.8 on asus p4c800e, 1gb kingston hyperx ll, wd raptor 74gb, 500gb storage, ati radeon 9800pro 256, audigy 2 zs platinum, px712a and combo lite on dvd/cdrw, antec true 550 all ina lian li pc70 full tower.

Yes, you will have to have 64-bit extentions to use 64-bit OS.
In theory you will get faster performance from 64-bit, but right now with beta, there is not a significant speed increase yet.

First you need 64-bit Processor, then you need 64-bit OS.
With Athlon 64, you can run 32-bit or 64-bit, with the Itanium you can only run 64-bit OS, but then the OS will let you run 32-bit apps.

No currently the Win64 will not run on P4's.

Still need a 64 bits capable CPU and for now, Intel P4 are not but when Intel will have one out, it will be recongnized by the new built, not only the AMD one that will be... that what I think of..
