Xp recycle bin receives nothing

Hello, I deleted a folder of photos by mistake. It didnt go to the bin and a search showed it was no longer on the system. I tried to changr directory to recycled as suggested in kellys korner but there appears to be no such folder any more on the system.... can anyonehelp??

Right-click on the Recycle Bin, select properties, verify that you have not checked the box labeled "Do not move files to the Recycle Bin."
