XP & Standby & No Sound

Hey! I just upgraded from WinME to XP. After leaving standby mode, I have no sound. After looking at Microsoft's KB and my manufacturer's web site, there are several workarounds, but no solution. The workaround is to reboot (duh), or toggle the 'mute' setting for your main volume control. Yeah, those things do the trick, but how is that a solution?

Has anyone seen this problem?

SB Live! with latest Microsoft drivers
All XP critical updates installed
No device conflicts.

Same prob here. After standby, my xp sound is mute, though it acts like it is working fine. I have to reboot, which nullifies the whole standby thing. mute on/off does not help me.
only the annoying and extreme BEEP when adjusting volume setting.
anybody got a solution for this?
