Is that true that WinXP will be faster(in games and more hardware compatible) and more stable than Win2000? Is it ah....9x series????? I'll wait for something like WinXP SE anyway!

Windows XP is the NT/2000 kernel with a 95/98/ME face on it. It'll have the 95/98/ME advantage for games, with the stability of NT/2000.
MS recommends XP Professional for gaming. Probably because it'll cost more :)

"It'll have the 95/98/ME advantage for games, with the stability of NT/2000."

Hmmmmm. Advantage.

Anyway, everything I've ever played with (video cards, drivers, OS, IRQ, ACPI) under both OS tells me it's a driver issue on the speed differences.

Actually over at Anandtech they did a review on the efficiency of the new XP OS vs. the older ones such as NT4 and Win2000. <a href="http://www2.anandtech.com/IT/showdoc.html?i=1501&p=4>Click Here</a>
You'll notice that XP is definitely slower than 2000. I guess the benchmarks need to be taken with a grain of salt though, since they are benching office applications. But what you need to realize is that these benchmarks do show how efficient the OS is in system resource usage.

From a personaly standpoint, I'll be upgrading to Win2000 this fall, just because I hate the way XP looks, and the fact that there is way too much "newbie" protection built in...and the fact that I have doubts on the new copy-right protections built into it. I'm sure it'll be a good operating system though, can anyone differentiate the differences between XP Pro and XP Home???

Only difference I've heard of with Pro and Home versions of Windows XP is that the former will support multiple processors while the latter will not. I'm sure there are other differences but this is the only one I've heard about (don't remember where so don't ask).

The newer build of Windows XP is very nice. I just got done testing Windows XP RC1 and was very pleased with it. And if you don't like the way it looks you can change everything to the "classic and old" views, buttons, settings etc.

The pro version has a ton of different features in it. But the main ones are Dual Proc support, built in FireWall, and all the Admin stuff from Windows NT/2000.

Most games run faster and system crashes almost never happen. Windows XP is looking really good to me right now. I do not like the product activation thing though. They also just released RC2, looks like Microsoft is almost done with it.

But, that's just my view on it.

Also have rc1 here @ work, does seem to be more stable than 98, I HATE the look of it though, lol on 1st boot all there is on the desktop is the bin!!, soone changed back to classic look though!, its still buggy, for example I was testing pinball, went into display and changed res, then pinball crashed and left half a pinball table on the desktop ontop of my icons, It seemed to setup ok though, recognised all hardware, even the crappy hsp modem, I'll be having a play with it over the next month or so, so time will tell I suppose.
