Hey I have a quick question, bought an AMD2600+ and an asus A7N8X mobo back in May. The question I have is that in the bios the temp of the board is clocked as being 50C+/- but using asus probe its clocked at between 35-39C (using a coolermaster something or other that runs at a noisy 6500+rpm) Why is there a difference between the two and which one should I trust and what is the optimal running temp for the xp2600+?

mercy bucket for any help.

There are 2 temps. CPU and System (northbridge).

I suspect you're looking at CPU in bios, and System in Probe, and they're both OK.

no such thing as 'Optimal' temp really - the performance does not change depending on temperature, on the whole, a cooler running CPU will have a longer life, but there's no cause for real concern until you're above 60C anyway in that respect.

The golden rule is, if it's running stably, don't worry about it!

Swap the coolermaster rubbish for a Vantec Aeroflow, or something like [link=http://www.revoltec.com/nl/produkte/rk001.htm]this[/link] if you can get it. You can drop the speed on the Vantec to about 3000rpm and with a couple of case fans keep the temperature below 50C.

i wouldnt use asus probe. Its not called anal probe for nothing.

Can often missroport temps quite horribly.
Use motherboard monitor 5.

But yeah, dont worry too much about your temps.
If its too hot you will know it... glitchy and crashy behavior or complete lockups.

no problems = no worries.

Speaking of anal probe, don't forget to check out the new "anus" thread in the "other" section.

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

as we speak (or type), motherboard.m 5 is puting my 2500+@2.1ghz with slk-800+smart.f2 at about 99-211c :)
