Xps 9000 mno boot

picked up a barebones xps 9000 no ram, no video board, no processor

put in 9800 Nvidia card, 475w dell p/s (this is as supplied)
1 stick CRUCIAL xps 9000 ram
new i7-920 processor with fan
get 4 beeps; then nothing; top indicatir light either white or orange
no video display

What does your owners manual say about your BIOS beep code? We have a sticky for troubleshooting this type of problem. You need to perform EVERY step in the checklist to properly troubleshoot your problem.

I *will* check it out...this is about my 5th DELL box and this one has me distressed

I do not know *for sure* if the chip is 100% or the mobo itself; I hope it is something stupid.

I invested <$500 for a box that should cost normally a bit under $2k

do IT for a living but 'i can't do every problem in the book' NO ONE does.

It was my RAM *placement*!!! Thank God; teh chip and mobo etc were all good after all!!!

The manual stated to place in RAM slot x, and slot Y is what worked fine ?!?!!? Damn DELL!!!
Had to reload '7' and used an SSD disk.
I ordered 2 more 1 GB sticks so I can use all three and get what I want (3 GB).

ANother Q

Are all the RAID towers units that FORCE you to use RAID; in other words if I want to add
5 more hard drives for storage; can I use the RAID box or some other type convention?

Please advise guys!!!

I upgraded the BIOS to the most recent DELL A.14 (from A.7 out of th ebox) NO MORE BEEPS.
NOW it recognizes (in the OS) all 3 sticks of 1GB RAM placed in the pattern proscribed by DELL
Using a 32 bit OS so more than 3GB is kinda' a waste
The BIOS however only 'sees' 1 GB; as long as the OS is able to use the 3GB I won't replace the mobo
Ain't worth it.
