Hi,
I have an earlier dell XPS M1710 with IDE interface to hard drive. Is it possible to replace the motherboard with the newer board with SATA interface? Will all the onboard components function correctly? I wish to upgrade to hybrid drive. I have service manual explaining physical procedure, know how to flash BIOS etc. Just don't know if it will work!
Just Id like to hang on to laptop as high res screen etc and replacement motherboard is pretty cheap compaired to replacing laptop.
Thanks
Jeff

If your cpu is core2 duo, I'm surprised the board doesn't have a sata port somewhere. If it's an older model, then you won't be able to replace the board. Laptop boards are proprietary to the case, not standardized like desktop boards.
