hello all!

i'm after a solution for a webcam that does XY positioning. the best way i
can describe it is this:
you know those 'claw' games/acrcade where you control a claw and the claw
drops down and tries to grab a stuffed bunny rabbit?

THATs what i want to do, but put a webcam where the claw would be.

(if you can't picture what i'm talking about, it's one of these thingies:
http://www.rainbowcrane.com/ )

i'll then put a pan/tilt/zoom cam where the claw would be for extra
versitility.

i know about things like http://www.trackercam.com . that dohicky that moves
the camera around is nifty! but i need to move this camera horizontaly and
vertically by several feet before the pan/tilt/zoom helps.

any links or ideas are greatly appreciated!

ty!

You may want to look at the comp.robotics.misc news group and
check robotic sites using google. You can use an H-bridge chip or
relays to revrse motors to position objects. I've for some simple
schematics at the below page.

I was going to do just the same thing as a "crane camera" outside of a
sugarglider cage. What you need to find is a low cost serial controlled
x y (z) positioning table. There are a zillion vendors and I cannot
tell you where to go look right now. Most all are designed for
industrial tool makers or laboratories or such so they will be super
duper expensive, but you can probably find something somewhere, if not
even surplus. If you find anything low cost that suits your
application, let me know. I will help you write a web control program
for it which will help springboard me to the same end. You might even
consider a "cherry picker" arm style as well.

heya!

si ballenger: thx for the link!

rowdy: i've been searching high and low for such things. i mostly find
people converting inkjet or impact or plotter printers into cnc machines.
i'm after something that can do 8 feet by 2 feet.

i've actually got a buddy who is looking into an old tape jukebox system
that is 7 feet!!

but i have a feeling that the guts are going to be WAY too big.
😱(

this is for a fish t@nk so it has to be cosmetically appealing too.
