Yamaha 16x10x40

Hey, what do all of you think about this new yamaha. It seems to be the fastest thing on the market. Is there anything I should know about it befor I buy it?

Looks ok, but Yamaha definitely needs to step up their software support for their hardware.

The Plextor 12/10/32 is the best drive right now. I'd get that. Or you could wait until Plextor releases its 16/10/32. Plextor has much better support, reliability, and is just better all around. I don't have links but the 12/10/32 has beaten the Yamaha at more than 1 speed test. Plextor is the best!

First I intended to get my hand on one but later I put off the purchase. Still, I trust Yamaha and my next CD-RW will be Yamaha. But I wait for such Y-model which applies some sort of BurnProof technology. Good reading.

Oh, one more thing. Sock declared Plextor is the best. Well, I'd argue with that. <font color=red> Plextor is <i> one of the best </i> <b> as well as Yamaha </b> </font color=red>. As for me I prefer Yamaha ))

For instance, Plextor drives do not know simulated writing which could be seem negligable BUT it is not! In real it's very important. But enough I do not intend to trigger a flood... 3;-)))

sounds allright from the review but the main problem, i feel would be finding cd-rs and cr-rws that can handle those speeds, anything above eight speed is quite rare even though 12 speed cds are almost eerywhere now, 16 speed discs wont be around in a lot of places for a while, and wont be too cheap if you will be able to find them

I disagree here, unless you are in Canada or something. My brother just picked up 100 Verbatim 16x CDRs at SAMs club for $35.

sorry about the fact that i live in a technological shithole called england. fast cd-rs are very expensive/rare here i would be surprised to find any in a shop at 16x for less than 2 canadian dollars, mail order is quite a lot cheaper but still canada/usa prces dont compare

Just an observation. I went to Best Buy last night. They had 3 of these 16X Yamaha CDRW drives. However, all three were open-box-items. Meaning they had been purchased and returned for whatever reason. I decided to steer clear of them.

Hell yeah I buy all my cd's from Sam's club. Cheap as hell and the quality is good. I have yet to find a place better then Sam's for cd's.

If Yamaha hopes to be a speed king in the CD-RW department, they're going to have to break the IDE hold of Plextor and TDK.

Their drives have been praised for a long time. Don't expect any change anytime soon...especially if Best Buy is recieving this many RMA's.
