YASD - Choking on a fortune cookie!?!?

My first post after quite a few months of reading, and several years of
playing on and off, and I thought I had read or seen it all, but
then...

I was in the castle and had quite a good Valkyrie going, only the
second time I had ever been to the castle level, and I end up dying by
choking on a fortune cookie!!!
Not even a warning message!!!

I thought I would at least get a "do you wish to stop eating?" message
or something... but no.

I was satiated, but that has never proved a problem before. If
satiated, I would just wait a good amount of turns before trying to eat
anything again, and thought something a puny as a fortune cookie
wouldn't be an issue, obviously I was wrong. Lesson learnt.

Also, a question, how do weapon skill levels effect the effectivness of
the secondary weapon when two-weaponing?

You can get the message out of a fortune cookie without eating it by
using the (r)ead command. This wastes the cookie, but they don't
provide much nutrition anyway. (Although in your case, they provided
just slightly too much.)

There is never an explicit warning message for choking to death when
eating a one-bite food. The "Satiated" in your status bar *is* your
warning message.

Why, if you were satiated, were you eating? And a fortune cookie, at
that?

Fortune cookies are usually better-used for taming pets. If you get a
bogus fortune you abuse Wisdom, IIRC.

I've had something similar. I ate something, "you feel deathly sick.
You die from your illness." No chance to pray.

To be extra nasty, the choking happens after the taming.

"Oh boy, a treat! I'll be his friend!" *tame* *choke* "paper..."

*rumble*

That's quite different. (And, if accurately reported, would appear to be
a bug.) From examining eat.c:

Eating tainted meat should give you food poisoning with a time-to-death
of 10-19 turns. Unless you'd already consumed some other tainted meat,
or been hit by a monster that causes deathly sickness of itself, you
should have had, even at the maximum possible burden level, at least one
turn in which to attempt a prayer.
