[SOLVED] Yellow Mark on Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, GPU drivers wont install

My laptop is an alienware r13 r3, and the graphics card is a gtx 1060 6gb. I have installed a fresh copy on windows 10 1903 using the media creation tool, however the basic display adapter does not install; error code 31. It shows up in bios as Discrete Graphics: NVIDIA GFX. I don't know what to do, can't flash bios as nvflash says no nividia display adapters found in system. Any help much appreciated!

Try to uninstall the driver from the Device Manager. Then check for updates, if should appear there.

First, have you tried to restart after the update? If thag doesn't work, try the troubleshooter.

I don't know what video is he/she talking about, but that shouldn't be necessary for official drivers. Download the video drivers from here. Disconnect from the Internet. Some people recommend uninstalling the drivers with DDU from Safe Mode, but should be fine from Device Manager as well. Restart after unistalling the driver. Try to install the official GTX 1060 driver now; you should get the optimal resolution at this point, but restart just to make sure.
GTX 1060 should apper on Device Manager.

If you are comfortable with doing so, you could open up the laptop to confirm that the graphics card is actually there. It might be that it has been removed at some point. Refer to your manual to do this. Follow the instructions for either removing or replacing the GPU, depending on what the manual has. If it is not there, then this is your problem. If it is there, try taking it out then putting it back in and see if drivers work now.

If manually downloading NVidia reference drivers, try the DCH instead of standard selection. With 1903, DCH is the new standard. I do see various people stating they are having problems with this. YMMV.

If you want to try using the standard reference driver model, download it and copy it to an external storage source like a USB thumb drive. When installing windows, deny windows internet access of any kind until you can install the standard drivers.

You could also try downloading the needed drivers and DDU, disable internet access, use DDU to make sure Nvidia drivers are clear, reboot, install drivers, then re-enable internet access for the laptop.

i'm pretty sure its there as if it wasnt windows should show that at all

I tried this, still not working.
The nvivida driver says cannot contiue, no compatible hardware found and not compatible with this version of windows???

any idea what to do next? I'm stuck and i really need this fixed as i use this laptop for my work(3D rendering), school, and basically everything.

Looking at Manual Driver Search, You'll see options for:

Just to double check zreck, you have downloaded your system specific drivers from DELL and installed those after installing windows? Not the graphics drivers, but the other system drivers. A driver here may be required for proper GPU/Integrated graphics recognition and switching.

yes, i have downloaded and installed all chipset and all relevant drivers from here

Opening up a support ticket with DELL would be recommended. There may be a simple, but very system specific, task or INF required.

The intel integrated graphics driver is also failing? Or already installed?

While a next step to try (if not done already) --Do everything manually through device manager--might help, it probably wouldn't get you your optimus settings to switch back and forth between integrated and dedicated GPU. You may find this easier to do in safe-mode.

Download and unzip the drivers from DELL into a directory of your choice
Go into device manager.
Select the device
Right click and choose update driver
Select browse to where the driver is stored
Select the directory you created and the appropriate subdirectory for your graphics driver..
