[SOLVED] yes i should have backed up my files

hello

i have a slave hdd that has a bunch of stuff id like to recover. when i plug the hdd, windows 7 just jams at start screen. if i unplug it, windows 7 starts and runs fine.

i tried fooling around plugging/unplugging/changing sata ports.... i got windows to start with the hdd in, but even if i get it to show in the 'computer'. it says i have to format hdd to use it.
its an old 500go hdd so im pretty sure its defective. but id like to recover the files on it (or as much as possible). its mostly small files (music, pictures,...).
anybody has some ideas,what i could try ?
i tried file recover but it doesnt seem to detect the hdd.

Try a USB to SATA adapter. Boot into Windows normally and then plug in the HDD via USB. See if that works.

sounds like a good idea, only 21$ on amazon, worth a try i guess
