That's correct, many jews back in Christ's times thouht he was a prophet or other non-beleivers of his deity reffered to him as "Rabbi" as the Bible explains. They just didn't except his deity. Many millions of Jews do beleive that Jesus DID exist. They do not beleive however that he was a deity of any sort.

UFO, you are forgetting that weird sect of Judaism, <A HREF="http://www.jewsforjesus.org/" target="_new">'Jews for Jesus'</A>. I don't understand them, but they are out there. The believe he was the messiah but they are not Christians. very stange sect, but an example of those Jews that DO hold that belief, however conflicted that may be.

Personally religion scares (scars) and confuses me. That's why I mock it from afar. Hey you with the pointy hat and bath robes, NAH-nah! I don't care if you excommunicate me! Nah-nah!

Being a deist and a lay-scientist I have to oppose religion on the grounds that they've always opposed my kind.

That's mostly true but two more important thing about the Messiah are that before he comes there will be a great war called (in hebrew anyway) "Gog U'Magog" in which most of the worlds population will parish. The second thing is that when he comes all the bodies will roll be themselves to the Holy land and then come back to life. That is by the way the reason that many jews come to Israel before dying, do their body won't have to go all the way back there when the Messiah does come. Ezekiel prophecised this in his prophecy called "The Prophecy of the Dry Bones".
"The hand of the LORD was on me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. 37:2 He caused me to pass by them all around: and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and behold, they were very dry. 37:3 He said to me, Son of man, can these bones live? I answered, Lord GOD, you know. 37:4 Again he said to me, Prophesy over these bones, and tell them, you dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. 37:5 Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. 37:6"

Thanks ape, this site you pointed me to I found really interesting. I am going to sign up on the forums there and find out what the difference in the beleif system of "Jews for Jesus" differs from Christianity. I searched the sight for about 20 minutes, and from what I've read I coulnd't find any worthwhile differences. Maybe I was looking at that wrong stuff, but IMO if they beleive that Jesus is the true Messiah, that automatically amkes them a Christian. I couldn't locate any distortions, and I found a nice PDF file about a certain Jew's conversion experience. It's a great site ape!
