I don't think I could find that post again if I tried tbh. The only
thing I can think of like that that I saved was my "Martix[1]" synopsis,
of which I'm still (unjustifiably) rather fond.

[1] From back when there was only one Martix.

Ooh no, we can't have that. I find just the two dashes, without the obligatory

I dl'd and installed the XP X64 seperate from my XP Pro... wow. Only
game I've tried with it so far is Far Cry 64 bit, and it ROCKS! Doom3
next, then I need to figure how to get all my HL stuff onto the new rig
without having to start over.

3DMark 03 and 05 (free versions) bm's will follow quickly :) Can['t
wait to see how poorly it does!

AMD64 X2 4800+
GA K8NS Ultra 939, F7 BIOS
2 x 1g Corsair DDR400 (CAS3) dual channel
eVGA 6800GT 256 meg w/Nvidia 64 bit 77.77 driver set
Samsung SyncMaster 930B 19" TFT LCD monitor
Using the Nvidia sound on mobo, gots LOTS of I/O there. Altec-Lansing
45s speakers (just too good to let go of!)
XP Pro SP2 on C: part and XP Pro X64 on D: Part and 65 gigs on F: part
for progs and data... little Seagate Barracuda 80g 7200 rpm Ultra ATA at
UDMA5.
Lite On dual layer 16x DVDRW internal.

The vid card is the only card in the box.

Case is black nameless full tower with top to bottom drive bays,
excellent cooling air flow, fans up front intake and cool the drives,
fans in back exhaust and fan in side puffs fresh on the AGP and CPU.
Thermaltake 420 watt with 2 fans. Believe it or not, it's quiet. Dunno
about all these blue LED's tho :\

The X2 runs cooler than my P4 3.0E (prescott) and about as cool as the
2.0 478 Northwood. About 97F idling :)

Time to go heat it up a bit, and do them Mad Onion things if they'll run
in X64.

McG. $1675 for what I carried home and $150 more for another box of XP
Pro.

Not so good yet...

Athlon 64 X2 4800+ , 2 gigs PC3200 in dual channel, 6800GT Nvidia 77.77 64
bit drivers, XP Pro x64. Everything is stock clocked.

3DMark2001SE - 23051 3Dmarks

3DMark03 - 11369 3DMarks

3DMark05 - 4812 3DMarks which is bad as the P4 3.0E gets right at 5000.
All these are posted and published at the ORB, look for McG.

If you have something that's coded for 64 bit, it screams. If 32 bits, it
screams with some things and with some it just looks like a stock clocked
FX53, which isn't a bad thing, just not as fast as one might think?
I haven't run any benches with Far Cry or Doom3, but Far Cry 64 bit is mind
blowing. Doom3 has no optimizations I know of for 64 bit, but with Ultra
quality mode selected, 4X aa and 1024x768 it is very fast, smooth and
stunning visually. In 1280x1024 it chugs...but image quality is amazing.
Now, I have to migrate my Steam/HL2 stuff from the old rig to this one. 10
megabits minimum on my LAN, so how would I do this? Just drag the
C:\games\Steam folder to this machine and then what? :)

Is this worth the bucks? Well, I don't know how a single core A64 behaves.
So I can't compare it to anything but the P4's I' ve been running. I won't
pay much attention to what I saw in 3DMark05, because its CPU bench seems to
be seeing an Athlon XP 2400+. Perhaps if I could run two 3DMark05's side by
side I could just add the scores together :)

They weren't kidding about the 8ms response time! Yeah, it's good for games
:) And movies :) Just make sure as always you check it first for any bad
pixels. I have 1 dark one that comes on sometimes..

Depending where you get it some places will check for you for a fee.
Aria.co.uk will check your monitor prior to despatch and guarantee no dead
pixels for £15. I don't know if they carry the monitor you want - just
citing an example.
