Hello guys.
I'm about to purchase an I5 10600K CPU and a Z490 mobo.
I've seen this comparison (great tests by Hardware Unboxed)between a few models, and decided to stay away from the Gigabyte Z490M I planned on buying, same for the AsRock Mobos.
My options are basically those:
ASUS PRIME-Z490-P - 248$ (10+1, 6 USBs)
MSI MPG-Z490-GAMING-PLUS - 260$ (8+4, 5 USB)
ASUS TUF Gaming Plus - 275$ (12+2, 5 USBs)

Now I'm been using Gigabyte's mobos for years now and I've heard they are the most reliable ones, but the test shows that the Z490 UD performed poorly in OC.
I'm curious if the gaming models will do better in OC even though their pricing is very similar.
I've also heard that ASUS mobos tend to have a lot of problems, mostly related to audio.
What's important to me is nice OC performance(not gonna push my CPU to it's limits, but I'll probably OC it a little).
I also want to push my HyperX Fury from 2400 to 3000mhz.
6+ USB ports will really benefit me, not a deal breaker but a big advantage for me, as I do use a lot of USB devices.
I've already sort of past my budget, so if there aren't big cons in going with the cheapest board, I'd like go do so.

Any advice would be very much appreciated :)

All of them are good. Just test your luck. List them 1-5 and do random roll between 1-5 :) Since your not going to push CPU to its limit prolly 10% oc. all of them are good..If audio is a problem to you, you can use GPU as audio there HDMI DAC out there that can be hook up to sound system..

I guess I can sum it all up into a few questions:
  1. will the cheap "Gaming" models by Gigabyte will do significantly better than the poor results of the UD model?
  2. Are ASUS mobos unreliable?
  3. What's the pros and cons of ATX vs mATX except the PCIe slots?

The only difference between Expensive and Cheap.
Cheapest cant be OC or Limited.
Expensive are already boosted right out of the box.

ALL MOBOS are unreliable when they DOA. But there is no such a thing unreliable if all mobos work out of the box.

If you want to OC go for expensive one....

The only cons on ATX is that you have more PCIE slot + m2 Slot + sata slot + RGB. really dont see that much difference. it just based on person who got the biggest D.

As for me when I build my i5 10400. I bought the cheapest board from microcenter 80$ - ASUS Prime H410M-A/CSM LGA1200 it lack a lot of IO Ports. It works :O but you cant OC. Pretty much that about it :) I dont like OC anyway it just produce more watts + thermal heat.
