With the arrival of the Windows 10 Creators Update we now have access to Game Mode. It is designed to minimize Windows activities so your computer can dedicate more resources to running games, enhancing your gaming experience. While the jury is still out on how effective it is, it is simple to enable Windows 10 Game Mode and see for yourself.

You will obviously need the Windows 10 Creators Update installed to access Game Mode.

Enable Windows 10 Game Mode
Once you have installed the Windows 10 Creators Update, you will see a new look Settings panel with a Gaming section.

1. Click the Windows Start button and select Settings. This will present you with the updated Settings window.

2. Select Gaming to access the new options. You should see Game bar, Game DVR, Broadcasting and Game Mode on the left.

3. Select Game Mode and toggle ‘Use Game Mode’ to on. For now, nothing will change. You will only notice a difference (possibly) when playing a game.

You can also turn on Game Mode from within a game by calling the Windows Game bar.

1. Press the Windows key + G while in a game to call the Game bar. You should see a small box appear with some options.

2. Select Settings (the cog icon) in the bar and there you can switch to Game Mode using ‘Use Game Mode for this game’. The Game bar should disappear, returning you to your game.

I have tried Game Mode in Ghost Recon: Wildlands and must say I didn’t notice much difference in performance.

Have you tried Game Mode yet? Did it improve performance for you?
