Update: apparently I just had to remove and reseat the CMOS battery or something. Ran everything at default, put both ram sticks back in, and now my RAM is being fully read as 16GB again without hardware reserves. I don't know why that was the solution but it was. Putting this here just in case...

Is it possible to fit a new Ryzen system, all peripherals, and windows 10 into a 280 or less budget? I've been trying on PC part picker for a bit, but it'd always go a bit over budget which is no bueno for my financial status (I'm already well above my original 250 ceiling).

For general builds, either of these two is more than good enough. Plenty of space in each (especially if you have a mATX build) which results in adequate airflow...

These are all solid choices, and all of them are way under $100 too so you should be more than safe with any choice. May I ask though if your MoBo is an ATX or mATX form factor? Choosing ATX mid towers might be unnecessary.

I think I have the exact same model laptop, and I game + edit photo and video extensively without much hiccups on my system (praying I don't jinx this). I'm guessing you got a dud?

Thanks for this man. I may just as well push through with the single stick option then. The 24GB option has always lingered with me though, but I'm scared that mismatching RAM sticks would cause problems to my laptop in the long run. Isn't that a thing to always make sure you buy dual channel...
