There is absolutely no reason not to use the SATA 3 cable in the SATA 2 slot: they are backwards compatible. If this were the opposite scenario, we might be recommending you buy a new cable, but please save your paycheck on this one! In short: no reason to spend money on different (older) cables.

I just recently had this experience when upgrading my Linux GeForce driver: it is an imperfect installation of the driver. In order to reinstall in this situation, because you have effectively ruined your GPU driver, you need to remove the GPU and totally reset your Motherboard (Factory Reset)...

When totally disassembling your PC, the uninstallation of your GPU may have triggered the Motherboard to first be looking for a direct connection to the Monitor. Plug your computer directly into the monitor via the output on the board, and see if it is displaying through this port.

If you are using a GPU, you need to first connect the monitor directly to your motherboard on startup. The preset is going to use the basic onboard graphics until you select the proper GPU settings. With just one GPU, make sure it is in the first PCIe slot and you have selected x16 in the bios...
