well offcourse it can also be a clever way to try and sell you 2 processors instead of one 8) but if you dont need ECC mem then its a lot cheaper than comparable opterons rigs plus it brings quad computing in the consumer space a bit faster so (hopefully) the development of software...

Well i DO have both (even different brands) and i can tell you that 1800 runs hotter and noisier...period . performance wise it depends what you want to run but both cards are great performers . furthermore : take an arctic cooling vga silencer when you buy a new card, $ 25 on top of one...
